Series 57 — Securities Trader Exam: Cheat Sheet

The Series 57 (Securities Trader Qualification Exam) qualifies you to trade equity and convertible debt securities. Here are the hard numbers and rules to lock in before test day.

Exam Blueprint — Memorize These Numbers

  • 50 scored questions — every one counts toward your score.
  • 105 minutes (1 hour 45 minutes) total testing time.
  • Passing score: 70% — miss no more than 15 of the 50 scored questions.
  • Exam fee: $105 USD.

Pacing Math (INFERENCE)

  • 105 minutes ÷ 50 questions = ~2.1 minutes per question. Budget roughly 2 minutes each and bank time for review.
  • To pass at 70%, you need at least 35 correct out of 50. That leaves a margin of only 15 wrong answers.
  • At the halfway mark (~52 minutes elapsed) you should have completed about 25 questions to stay on pace.

Must-Remember Rules

  • Because the passing bar is 70% and there are only 50 questions, each question is worth 2% of your score — a small number of careless errors can drop you below passing.
  • Flag-and-return: with ~2 minutes per item, don't stall — mark tough questions and use leftover time from the 105-minute window to revisit them.

Fast-Recall Table

  • Questions: 50
  • Time: 105 min
  • Pass: 70% (≥35 correct)
  • Fee: $105
  • Per-question value: 2% (inferred)
